For this week I've chosen:
Title: Dirty Magic
Author: Jaye Wells
Series: Prospero's War, #1
Release date: January 21th 3014
Publisher: Orbit
Paperback, 400 pages
The first in an all-new urban fantasy series by USA Today bestseller Jaye Wells. The last thing patrol cop Kate Prospero expected to find on her nightly rounds was a werewolf covered in the blood of his latest victim. But then, she also didn't expect that shooting him would land her in the crosshairs of a Magic Enforcement Agency task force, who wants to know why she killed their lead snitch. The more Prospero learns about the dangerous new potion the MEA is investigating, the more she's convinced that earning a spot on their task force is the career break she's been wanting. But getting the assignment proves much easier than solving the case. Especially once the investigation reveals their lead suspect is the man she walked away from ten years earlier—on the same day she swore she'd never use dirty magic again.Kate Prospero's about to learn the hard way that crossing a wizard will always get you burned, and that when it comes to magic, you should be never say never.
Clearly the cover gods are very fond of Jaye Wells! This cover is unusually detailed and well-done, especially for urban fantasy. And don't you just love the description? I'm very partial to the urban fantasy/police procedural combo.
*sigh* If only January could come a bit sooner.
What are you guys waiting on this week? Leave me a link and I'll be right there.
I haven't heard of this one! I mean you're UF master after all. Anyhow I agree the cover is full of details and I'm sure they're connected with the story. Great pick Maja :)

I hadn't heard about this series before, but I love the premise of mixing detective/police work with the paranormal (it was my fave part of the Anita Blake books before they got too... I don't even know!) I think I'll be giving this series a try!

ReplyDeleteI agree the cover is gorgeous Maja, despite not reading as much urban fantasy as I hoped, I also find ones that mix it up with police procedures highly appealing, Wonderful pick Maja! :)
ReplyDeleteI still need to read something by Jaye Wells Maja! I've heard such great things about her books, and this might give me the perfect excuse to try her since this is the start of a brand new series. I love how detailed that cover is too, and all the colors in those beakers. So pretty!

Ooh, I haven't heard of this one before, but it looks like a great UF read! I love the cover, and I'm really curious to see what all those objects on the table mean, and how they relate to the story. Also, I just love the girl's posture, it seems so fierce and kick-butt to me! I love those kinds of MCs. :D
