Something Wicked Strikes: Tim Marquitz, Author of Clandestine Daze (+Giveaway)

Hello, nocturnal readers!

The Nocturnal Library has many friends (aren't I a lucky girl?), but very few of them have been with us as long as Tim Marquitz. Years ago, I accidentaly stumbled upon Armageddon Bound, the first in Tim's Demon Squad series and promptly fell in love with his anti-hero, his writing style and his unforgettable sense of humor.
Now, Tim has a new urban fantasy series called Clandestine Daze, and the prequel novella, Eyes Deep, has just been released. Having read it just days ago myself, I can honestly tell you that you should all find the time in your undoubtedly busy schedules for it. It's a-freakin'-mazing!

As an urban fantasy author, I’ve always been a “little” left of center when it comes to my approach. More a splash of Jack in my coffee than cream. My Demon Squad series is a perfect example of that. Frank “Triggaltheron” Trigg, the main voice in the series, is a whirlwind of trouble and political correctness be damned. He’s great to hang around at a party, but you don’t necessarily want to take him home with you afterwards. Maybe if you’re a bit masochistic, perhaps, but not if you value your sanity.

When I sat down with the concept for Clandestine Daze, I wanted to approach the series in a slightly more traditional direction. Now, for me, traditional might not have the same definition as most folks’ thoughts on the word, but I wanted to trade in the absolute chaos of the Demon Squad series for one that was more grounded…to a degree.

Unlike the DS series where I’ve introduced a multitude of other worlds and dimensions, Clandestine Daze is set on Earth and, barring the occasional romp into Aellisar—the realm of the supernaturals—it won’t go universe hopping. The main character, Theo, is a doppelganger charged with keeping the status quo between the two worlds by whatever means necessary. He’s taken on the form of a high ranking security chief in one of the tech businesses that has recently stumbled across a way to empower their technological devices with the magical energies of Aellisar.

Suddenly a father and husband to the family of the man he killed and replaced, Theo is forced to play a role he’s ill-suited for, all while trying to keep his secrets to himself and the world from falling apart around him. It’s not an easy task, and it’s made harder by the fact that others from Aellisar and Earth have their own reasons for bringing the two worlds into conflict. Aided by his handler, Jace, a supernatural with a feral side, Theo must walk the line between Earth and Aellisar, a slip to either side could prove ruinous for him and all he cares about.
