Deadly enemies.Good thing Michael is in no mood to play nice.Michael survived China. Barely. But now he's got bigger problems. A pair of coordinates broadcast on an obscure frequency have brought Michael to Istanbul, Turkey where credible chatter has emerged that a terrorist group plans to use a devastating device to hold the world hostage.Designed by Nikola Tesla, arguably the greatest inventor of the Twentieth Century, the device is experimental, it is capable, and it has been missing for almost sixty years. If Michael is to prevent a catastrophe, he'll need to get to the device before the Conspiracy or risk upsetting the global balance of power forever. Of course, finding the Tesla Device is one thing, knowing whom he can trust with it is another matter entirely. To survive, he'll have to do both. If he doesn't, what started as a bad day is about to become a disaster. Can Michael fight his way through the lies and deception to save the world? If you can't get enough of the action of Lee Child and Vince Flynn, the intrigue of Robert Ludlum, and the adventure of Clive Cussler and James Rollins, you are going to LOVE Blown Circuit!
This series has
become a great way for me to step out of my comfort zone and away from my usual
genres. Spy thrillers are generally not my thing, but with this series, the
combination of excellent writing and skilled narration is proving to be quite
irresistible.
While he was in
China searching for his father, Michael Chase’s numerous talents have been
recognized by his father’s agency, the CIA. He has been recruited and trained
in an accelerated process and now he is, once again, following his father’s
clues, albeit with the agency’s support.
This time, Michael
travels to Istanbul to fight a terrorist group intent on using one of Nikola Tesla’s
devices to hold the world hostage. The pacing of this book is relentless.
Michael jumps from one dangerous situation straight into the next, leaving the
reader no time to breathe at all. And yet, Lars Guignard leads us through numerous
plot twists quite skillfully, never allowing confusion to join us on our
journey.
I’m generally
uncomfortable when the audio narrator changes in the middle of a series, but
this time, the change was for the better. I enjoyed Ben Sullivan’s narration of
the previous book, but Russell Jonas gives Michael and extra something that
simply wasn’t there before. His uses his calm, no-nonsense voice to deliver the
never-ending action scenes and bring them to life, crystal clear in the
listener’s mind. Since this is his narrating debut, I hope he’ll prove to be
versatile enough and transfer the same skill to other genres. I’d be very happy
to buy books narrated by him in the future.
I’ll certainly be
going back to this series when the opportunity arises. It has become a favorite
of mine even after the first book, but <i>Blown Circuit succeeded in
cementing my affection for Michael and his story. I just hope the audio
publisher will keep Jonas on as the narrator.

About the Author:
Lars Guignard is a former film and television writer and a graduate of both McGill University and the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. His debut thriller novel, Lethal Circuit, has been
an amazon top 100 Technothriller since its release.
Guignard has wanted to write Indian stories for kids ever since he attended a boarding school in the majestic Himalayas. The time he spent in the “school above the clouds” affected him
profoundly, and once he returned home to North America he was struck by the lack of children’s stories from India available in our culture. Since India is such an incredible country, he decided
to write a series of action adventure books for young adults about India to introduce young readers to this magical, mystical land. So if you’re looking for a great book adventure for kids, try Ghost Leopard today!

I think it is awesome that while this isn't your normal genre you got caught up in this story and your views changed about it.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had more luck with audiobooks but for whatever reason when I try to listen to them my mind wanders and I loose interest.
That good you say...hm, but for me, dunno there
ReplyDeleteI haven't read a spy thriller since I picked up the MG Alex Rider Series nearly five years ago. Thanks for putting this on my radar, Maja, as I'd likely enjoy this one. I'll have to try to get it on audio for sure! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think it'd be trying these in audio cause I'm really bad with audiobooks, but I think I need to add these ones to my TBR list, cause spy thrillers would be a very nice change from my usual reads!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation, Maja!
Spy thrillers are typically not my thing either Maja, but like you said, it's really nice to step outside your comfort zone now and then, especially when you're rewarded with a great story in doing so. My sister in law is a HUGE thriller fan, particularly of the spy variety, so I'll be recommending this one to her for sure:)
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to hear that a book that is out of your comfort zone was so enjoyable, Maja. I don't tend to read spy thrillers either, but the writing in this series sounds like it's fantastic. I might give it a shot if ever I want to read a thriller someday.
ReplyDeleteGreat review, Maja.
I'm with you about stepping out of my normal genres for these, but it was nice to read/listen to something a bit different. I'm glad you mentioned that you like the narrator. I felt like he fit perfect as well. And it was really interesting to me that his voice and style went so well with the first book as well. It's been awhile since I listened to it, but it seems like you could listen to them back to back and not get thrown by the change in narration.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed, thanks for hosting a tour stop!
Michael def sounds like a character that I would care about and really become invested in as well.
ReplyDeletehumm this would have been out of my comfort zone as well, but lately I been stepping out of it and finding some unusual surprised along the way - kind of liking it. Spy thriller, it sounds very exciting!
ReplyDeleteOh I do like thrillers so this is up my alley. I usually don't like change of narrators either, but since it worked for you... in spades... I really need to check out this narrator! Yep, you got me interested in a book series and a narrator!! :)
ReplyDeleteA long time ago, I wasn't all that in to spy related books either, but after reading the Gallagher Book series, my opinion changed. This looks like an awesome series. Thank you for the great review!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the listen, Maja. I totally appreciate you stepping outside your comfort zone to try out the genre. The first book, Lethal Circuit, was told from the omniscient point of view, but when we changed to the first person point of view with Blown Circuit, we wanted a voice specifically for Michael. Enter Russell Jonas. Glad you enjoyed his read!
