Waiting on Wednesday: Fiendish

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. It spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

For this week I've chosen the new book by one of the very few authors on my auto-buy list.

Title: Fiendish
Series: Standalone
Release: June 26th 2014
Publisher: Razorbill
Format: Hardcover, 352 pgs
Pre-order: Amazon

A creepily atmospheric new novel from the NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of THE REPLACEMENT
Clementine DeVore spent ten years trapped in a cellar, pinned down by willow roots, silenced and forgotten. Now she’s out and determined to uncover who put her in that cellar and why.
When Clementine was a child, dangerous and inexplicable things started happening in New South Bend. The townsfolk blamed the fiendish people out in the Willows and burned their homes to the ground. But magic kept Clementine alive, walled up in the cellar for ten years, until a boy named Fisher sets her free. Back in the world, Clementine sets out to discover why her childhood was taken from her. But the truth gets muddled in her attraction to Fisher, the politics of New South Bend and the hollow, a fickle and terrifying place that seems increasingly temperamental ever since Clementine reemerged.

I strongly suspect that Brenna sacrificed her firstborn to the cover gods. Perhaps an internal organ or something along those lines. Can you believe this cover?! And she always gets the best ones, just remember: The Space Between, The Replacement, Paper Valentine!

But even if I weren't the shallowest person ever to have walked the Earth, this description totally left me desperate to read this. Ten years trapped under roots in a cellar? Only Brenna can pull off something like that.

So that's it from me. What are you guys excited about? Leave a link!

  4. I've still not read anything by this author, though I plan to. Her books seem so out of my usual range, but they all seem to be so well-liked and the covers are just too eye-catching. Great pick, Maja!

And I second what you said. She has the most gorgeous covers. It's ridiculous. I cannot even decide which one is my favorite. It's a tie between The Replacement and Paper Valentine. Although I still need to read The Replacement.... I'll get around to that :P Soon. Maybe :P

  20. I agree with you about Brenna being an auto-buy author. She has such a lovely, unique way of writing about the world. And this cover is absolutely stunning! I think you're right, she's struck some kind of unworldly bargain to make sure all her covers are jaw droppingly beautiful. Great WoW pick!
