Waiting on Wednesday: Parasite

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. It spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

It's been months since my last confession WoW post, so for this week, I've chosen something really special to me. I also wanted you guys to know that I love you all SO MUCH but it's been a bit crazy around here so please excuse my lack of posts/visits/comments this past week or so. I should get back on track soon.

Title: Parasite
Author: Mira Grant
Series: Parasitology, #2
Release date: October 29th 2013
Publisher: Orbit

A decade in the future, humanity thrives in the absence of sickness and disease.

We owe our good health to a humble parasite - a genetically engineered tapeworm developed by the pioneering SymboGen Corporation. When implanted, the tapeworm protects us from illness, boosts our immune system - even secretes designer drugs. It's been successful beyond the scientists' wildest dreams. Now, years on, almost every human being has a SymboGen tapeworm living within them.

But these parasites are getting restless. They want their own lives...and will do anything to get them.

Why am I waiting: Because Seanan McGuire as Mira Grant wrote my favorite trilogy ever and I have this huge Newsflesh-sized hole in my heart that only she can fill. My hopes and expectations are almost unhealthy. And would you look at that cover? So amazing!

What's your WoW this week? Leave me a link and I'll be right there.

  1. I haven't read Mira Grant's Newsflesh trilogy but I really need to! The concept for this one sounds absolutely terrifying and I need to read it like ASAP. Maja, did you know that this one is READ NOW on Netgalley? Anyway, great pick! :D

  3. I wasn't fully aware of this book. The cover looks a little familiar so I've obviously seen it before. I've now snagged a copy on NG, so thank you for sharing. I look forward to finding the time to read it lol

  6. That's making me shiver. I'm not sure I'll be able to take reading about parasites in our bodies. I'm really squeamish and I hate things like that. However it does sound like a fab, rather unique premise.

    Great pick, Maja! :)

  9. YIKES MAJA! I'm not sure I at any point want a tapeworm living inside of me, even if it supposedly keeping me from getting sick. It's like having an alien in there and all I'd be able to think about is it bursting forth from my stomach amidst blood and gore and gasps of shock. *shudders*. Still, I think this is definitely something I need to read, I want to find out what happens when they get restless...:)

  21. I still have to finish the Feed Trilogy, but I'm quite looking forward to this! It sounds wonderful and I'm sure Grant has hordes of world-building up her sleeve! I can't wait! :)

  22. I absolutely LOVE the Feed books, and I'm bursting with excitement over this. I broke my self-imposed no-request ban when I saw it up on Edelweiss, and I just got the galley on my reader. One chapter in and it's as awesome as you would expect. Pretty much tossing all other reading plans out the window until I'm done.... :-)

  25. This cover is just insane, I can't stop staring at it, I agree that the blurb certainly has me intrigued, also the fact that it's read now on NetGalley, how can I resist? Wonderful pick Maja, I hope this book lives up to your expectations! :)

  26. Newsflesh is one of my favorite series as well Maja. I have an arc of this, but we were told no reviews, comments etc until 1 week before release date..and I haven't started reading it because I am afraid I will burst from the silence. Incidentally, are you reading her serial on Amazon? It is called Indexing and under SM. We are on like week 3 or 4 now and I am enjoying it.

  28. Aaaah, I still have to get this. I actually have to get to her books period. :) Hope you get and enjoy!!

  29. Maja! I hope things get a bit less crazy for you soon. I LOVE this cover, as well. I'm pretty grossed out by the concept that everyone has a tapeworm living in them in the future, but I somehow all the more intrigued despite my disgust. I still REALLY need to read the Newsflesh trilogy! Especially if you say it's one of your favourites.

  30. I also have a Newflesh shaped hole in my heart. I've actually (temporarily) stopped recommending the series to patrons, as I keep re-reading the entire series each time I rec it.

  31. you do know this is now a read now on netgalley right?
