Hello, nocturnal librarians!
I hope you're having a fabulous weekend. It's all work work work for me these days, but fortunately, it's time for yet another Nocturnal Quotes post, and I chose an all-time favorite once again.
This week, we have a poem (or part of it) written by Magdalene Grace Garcia, a character from Mira Grant's fantastic Newsflesh trilogy. That trilogy is my heart and soul, I'm telling you, and if you haven't read it yet, please do so as soon as you can.
Beautiful, isn't it? Unfortunately, the whole poem was too long to use for the quote, but here it is anyway. I just can't get over how wonderful it is. Seanan McGuire is brilliant.
(The cool of age, the rage of youth)
And stand against the lies of old
(The whispers soft, the tales untold)
We find ourselves the walking dead
(The loves unkept, the words unsaid)
And in the crypt of all we've known
(The broken blade, the breaking stone)
We know that we were in the right
(The coming dawn, the ending night).
So here is when we stop the lies.
The time is come. We have to Rise.
And stand against the lies of old
(The whispers soft, the tales untold)

Only Seanan could publish a combination of zombies and excellent poetry and not only get away with it, but get nominated for several Hugo awards as well.

These poems are beautiful. I bought Feed some time ago but still havent read it. I have so many books I need to read and hopefully this one will come in line. Great graphic too :)

ReplyDeleteI've been tempted to read thee books for ages. I always see them as I roam the Sci-Fi section in my local bookshop, so I might try this out soon. I do love myself a good zombie book and these quotes and poetry confirm it. Lovely post! :)
