Welcome to my first Best of 2013 post! Today I'll share with you my favorite book covers. Choosing such a small number was no small feat, my friends, but I managed. I hope you'll like my choices.
For me, the absolute winner in 2013 is Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi. The cover is gorgeous, different and slightly edgy, just like the book itself. Just looking at it makes my throat constrict! This is a book that made me feel every single emotion I'm capable of feeling and I suppose the cover brings some of that back to the surface.
Brenna Yovanoff has been very good to the cover gods (and to the people at Razorbill) because she always gets the best ones. Remember The Space Between and that silver gorgeousness all over the front cover? Paper Valentine is perhaps my least favorite of her covers, but it's still pretty extraordinary.
Kiersten White had two fabulous covers in 2013 - The Chaos of Stars and Mind Games - but in the end, I went with this. I hope you all agree with me.
How to Lead a Life of Crime stands out a bit from the rest, but I love it because it reflects the mood of the novel perfectly.
The rest, I think, need no explanations. Just looking at them is enough.
Giveaway Time!!!
Enter the Rafflecopter below for a chance to win one of these pretties. In addition to being beautiful, they are all excellent novels. The giveaway is, of course, international, i.e. anywhere The Book Depository ships.
Good Luck!!

Splintered by A.G. Howard
ReplyDeleteMy favorite covers this year must give to The Selection series! They are so gorgeous. Nick picks Maja!
ReplyDeleteGreat choices! I don't even know where I would begin picking!
ReplyDeleteI agree completely! These Broken Stars is not only striking, but also relevant to the novel, which I appreciate, and I love this original hardcover of Out of the Easy. The new paperback cover is just..bad. It makes me want to cry, actually. *sigh* Anyway, lovely cover choices, Maja, and thanks for the giveaway, dear!(:
ReplyDeleteI am so glad Mafi had redesigns. The eye covers are just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI really love the simplicity and artsy-ness of the covers for Eleanor & Park and Fangirl. :)

ReplyDeleteThese Broken Stars! It's amazing!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is probably Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.
ReplyDeleteSo many gorgeous covers this year. I like how they weren't all girls in gorgeous dresses (though I like those, too). My favorites were the ones that focused on text like Chaos of Stars and Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.
ReplyDeleteThese Broken Stars =]

Ooooo yes Maja, I love all of these! And you're right, Brenna Yovanoff without fail always has the most stunning covers. I think The Replacement might be my all-time favorite for its gorgeous creepiness, but I love Paper Valentine as well. I also can't say enough good things about the new covers for the Shatter Me series. SO PRETTY:)
ReplyDeleteOoooooh, I agree! These are all gorgeous covers! My favorite one is the cover for These Broken Stars. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the cover of NOT A DROP TO DRINK in particular, but there were so many great covers it's hard to remember them all! Thanks for the awesome giveaway:)
ReplyDeleteThere are too many nice covers to pick just one. Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter had some nice covers.
ReplyDeleteI have to totally agree that Brenna Yovanoff's covers are always amazing. I also really like The Chaos of Stars and These Broken Stars. In terms of some of my favourite covers, any cover done by Jason Chan would be one I love.
ReplyDeleteI think Frost Burned was my favorite, although Diana Rowland's White Trash Zombie Apocalypse is a close second.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! Those are some gorgeous covers.
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are These Broken Stars & Splintered
ReplyDeleteI love your list!
The Ocean at the End of the Lane is a pretty striking cover. But I'm a big Dan Dos Santos fan, so I think my favorite was probably Frost Burned, the 7th Mercy Thompson book.
ReplyDeleteI like a lot of them but I'm going to pick Out of the Easy because of the layering. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI really love These Broken Stars, as well as Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell which is just so simply and gorgeous!

ReplyDeletethese broken stars one was gorgeous
ReplyDeleteYou picked some great ones! I don't know if I could pick a favorite cover myself. I do really love The Shadows of Asphodel cover a lot and it's at least one of my favorites. The Chaos of the Stars is gorgeous and different and I agree with your comments about Unravel Me. It's definitely different and edgy and memorable.
ReplyDeleteFangirl has such an adorable cover. it fits the book so perfectly.
ReplyDeletethat's a lot of wonderful covers! My fave? wow difficult question...maybe the ones by kristen callihan.
ReplyDeleteI'm not normally a big fan of faces on covers but I do love the Courtesies and Curiosities cover. The colors are amazing!
ReplyDeleteBrenna Yovanoff always has gorgeous covers. I don't really know what stands out to me anymore. Once something is successful, it's copied so much that I glaze over.
ReplyDeleteI love book covers that don't make much sense until you read the book and go AHA! and see all the details and realize it's perfection. I guess like Unravel Me was for you.
I know there was a book like that this year for me but I'm having a complete brain fart and can't remember lol
So many pretty covers! What's embarrassing though is I've only read one of those books. So many to catch up on, too, apparently haha.
ReplyDeleteI love the covers for Burial Rites, In the Shadow of Blackbirds, Splintered, to name a few 2013 reads for me.
I love all the Shatter Me covers and the story too! There my favorite books right now and I can't wait for Ignite Me!

ReplyDeleteI really love the cover for These Broken Stars, although I haven't read it. Among the books that I've read this year, I would say that my hardback editions of The Giver quartet strike me as having really beautiful covers.

ReplyDeleteUnravel Me looks amazing c:

ReplyDeleteFor me, the winner should be Clockwork Princess. I love it because Tessa's pose (the girl on the cover) really gives the impression that she is a strong girl who will not bow down to her enemy, no matter how vicious her enemy's plan will be. The book she's holding is very representative of how much she really loves reading book (like me hehe) ,, thanking you in advance if you choose me to win the giveaway :)
ReplyDeleteI think How to Lead A Life of Crime's cover deserves to be called the best. I havent read the book but when I saw its cover, I became interested and wonder about the content. That is why I choose this book if you choose me to win this giveaway. Thank you. Wish us luck!
