Cursed by Destiny Blog Tour Review & Giveaway

Hi and welcome to my tour stop for Cursed by Destiny by Cecy Robson!
I love this series so much and I thoroughly enjoy sharing my enthusiasm with all of you, so I'd like to thank Cecy and Signet Eclipse for giving me the oportunity to do so.
Here's my review:

Cursed By Destiny (Weird Girls, #3)Author: Cecy Robson
Series: The Weird Girls
Published: January 7th 2014
Publisher: Signet
Format: Paperback, 368 pgs
Buy: The Book Depository

Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other 20-something girls—with one tiny exception: they're products of a backfired curse that has given each of them unique powers that make them, well, weird…...
Celia’s a girl in trouble. Her heart is bound to Aric, but he is a purebloodwere who must deny her or risk condemning his species to extinction. And that’s just her love life. She’s also been called to take down a group of demon terrorists looking to overthrow the paranormal world. (No pressure.)
In order to bring them down, Celia must ally herself to Misha, the master vampire who has made no secret of his desire for her. And if that weren’t enough misfortune for one girl, a clairvoyant’s prediction could destroy Celia and Aric’s love for good. The only way to protect the world from unbridled supernatural terrorism is for Celia to bind herself to her destined mate. And that doesn’t appear to be Aric….
Apparently, my previous assessment holds true: Cecy Robson sure knows how to write good romantic urban fantasy. She is, in fact, excellent at what she does and she keeps giving us one successful installment after another.

Cursed by Destiny is no different. A fabulous cast of characters, great action scenes, and a romance that will turn you into a puddle of goo someone will have to mop right off the floor. This is a series you can easily get invested in. I guarantee you will feel both joy and heartbreak with these characters, and you will laugh and cry along the way.

The unbreakable bond between our four sisters continues being the glue that holds the series together. In Cursed by Destiny, the sisters have chosen (or been forced to choose) different pats. They’ve had to leave their home and move elsewhere, but they remain close nevertheless. Every one of these girls is a heroine in her own right, the characters so well-rounded that I can easily imagine each of them getting a spin-off series. Although we got off to a rocky start, Taran has somehow become my favorite, her temper and honesty a most welcome detail in this fantastic series.

While I appreciate everything else about these books, the torturous romance is a constant source of struggle for me. Celia and Aric give a whole new meaning to the term ‘star-crossed lovers’ and to be honest, the whole thing is making me anxious, which isn’t something I tend to appreciate. I was always more fond of those series that feature a strong couple united against outside dangers. Celia and Aric’s relationship (or lack thereof) makes such an important part of this series that I often wish it could be different.

Celia’s friend Misha and his vampire servants are in charge of supplying comic relief, but although we came close, I’m glad a love triangle didn’t fully form between Celia, Aric and Misha. With everything that’s been going on with our favorite couple, there simply isn’t room for a third.

The Weird Sisters is a series I keep recommending to anyone who would listen. It is written to appeal to a much wider audience: thanks to all the humor and the romance, those who aren’t comfortable with dry, old school urban fantasy will have better luck with it, but there’s plenty of action and mythology to satisfy hard core UF fans like myself.

  9. I've had my eye on this series for a while but cannot seem to make up my mind. I have to agree with you, I love it when couples hold a strong front together instead of.. well angst.

I haven't found a new urban fantasy series to get obsessed with but I think I might give this a shot.. after I stalk it a little :P I am already a little antsy about a possible love triangle even when you said that there wasn't exactly one. I can be slightly paranoid. I do hope Celia and Aric get their happy ending at some point :)

    Lovely Review Maja! :)

  11. I can't wait for this to release! I'm very anxious about the romance in this one too and seeing as you only mentioned that no love triangle took to fruition, I'm assuming there's still a lot of unresolved issues between Aric and Celia. I'm thrilled that these sisters are still such a huge focus, though, and I'd love spin-offs about them too. Wonderful review, Maja - we'll have to discuss this one once I've read it!

  14. This sounds like my sort of thing, especially with the humour. In fact, I've been wanting to give the first book a try for a while now, especially after all the great things I've heard from you and several others. It's a relief to hear there isn't actually a love triangle in the end, as that would be the first thing to turn me away. Lovely review, Maja!

  15. To be honest I actually haven't picked up ANY UF books and I don't even know why?? This sounds absolutely fantastic. I like that this book has a little bit of everything in it, which would make it a perfect start for me to get into this genre. And I'm soooo glad there isn't a love triangle! I personally think, as frustrating as the romance maybe in this one, a love triangle would have been far worse. lol ;p I'm glad you enjoyed this overall! I'll be looking forward to picking this up, soon!

    Fabulous review, Maja! :D

I am so glad there wasn't a love triangle either, I love Misha but it just isn't something that is needed in this series to keep it interesting. Although, with the way it ended, I am dying more more!

  34. This is what I look for in a good romantic UF ----> "a romance that will turn you into a puddle of goo someone will have to mop right off the floor." I know when I catch up I'm in for a lot of Celia and Aric angst, but somehow I'm looking forward to it, though I do agree it's nice to have a couple that is on solid ground, and I hope they get there in the near future. Glad to hear you're still enjoying this series and recommending it so highly! Wonderful review :-)
