In My Mailbox #3

Another Sunday, another great IMM. This is a feature hosted by the amazing Story Siren and even though we're new here, we love it!

Without further ado, let's find out what we got in our IMMs this week:

Maja’s IMM:

Apparently, my mailman is on vacation and they have no one to replace him, so I didn’t get everything I ordered this week. But fear not, my precious book lovers, something did come, albeit a little late.

I got the beautiful 2010 HarperCollins UK edition of Looking For Alaska, even though it’s paperback, and I’m not a big fan of paperbacks, no siree Bob. Books are meant to last and they’re supposed to survive for generations, and besides, I get apoplexy when someone breaks the spine on one of my books. It’s a capital offense. … whoa, getting a little sidetracked here.
I also got Suicide Notes by Michale Thomas Ford, an amazing book that kind of went unnoticed, so I urge you to get a copy and read it as soon as possible, it will be good for you. I already had this book, but I gave it away to my sister and I absolutely had to replace it. That’s how good it is. If you don’t believe me, please read Lisa’s fantabulastic review.

I got Room from my library because I’m not quite sure that I’ll like it so I didn’t want to risk buying a copy just yet. Fortunately, it’s popular enough that even my little Croatian library has it in English. *cue the Macarena* I’ll let you guys know how it goes.

On the other side of the Adriatic, as per usual, another mailbox was waiting to be filled out...

Lisa's IMM:

This was my first week of work after a loooong time so I didn’t have really much time (nor strength) to acquire lots of books. In fact, the only one I really looked for is Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler, which everybody seems to have read and loved last week so my expectations are pretty high - let’s hope it lives up to them.

The other two books were offered to me for review; I had all intentions of reading Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia after some glowing reviews on GR - luckily, the lovely Debra Anastasia herself later that week became my friend and kindly offered me a copy, which I promptly accepted.
Darkhouse
by Karina Halle finally showed up in my mailbox after quite a long wait (postmen do get lazy sometimes, right Maja? I got your Christmas card today after ONLY 45 days), and I am quite eager to read this one, hoping it will follow the lead of the other great self-published I read last year and earlier this year (GASP! Angelfall...).
That’s it for this week lovely ladies - and gentlemen, if you are reading this too - hope you have a relaxing Sunday and a productive week ahead of you!

Your favorite European duo,
Lisa and Maja

  1. Hmm, Room's sort of a weird book. I'd definitely be interested to see what you think about it.

  2. Remind me never to send any of my "used" books to Maja!! She'd fall over in seizures if she saw my paperbacks (*cracks spine wide open*). And what's up with your mailman! He has better vacation benefits than a union worker over here!!

Interesting books this week - waaaay off my usual radar but Poughkeepsie sounds like an intense read - I may have to add that one after all! Suicide Notes DOES sound great, too!

Have a great rest of your Sunday, girls!!

  6. Maja, creased spines make me want to vomit. You should see the way I read my paperbacks - I barely open the book!

Looking forward to seeing what you think of Poughkeepsie, Lisa. I hear nothing but good things about that one, too. :)

  21. Oooh both of you got some amazing books this week! :D I've never seen that cover of Room before, but it's such a beautiful cover! I love how simple the covers are for that book, the crayon version is really wonderful to because it stays so true to the characterization of the story. As does this one. :)

Awesome mailboxes! And I just wanted to stop by and say thank you to Lisa for stopping by and commenting on my IMM! Thanks! :D

Happy Reading to you both! :D

yes TRY room. i am wondering what you will think of it. i found it unputdownable, but in retrospect i was a little, 'what the what, about it all, haha.

my lib has suicide notes. it just doesnt seem like a cherry read to me :/ i love lisa's review though

    YOU BETTER LIKE BITTERSWEET.

well, ockler is not for everyone, but i am in to her for sure. plus, there's a cute meet cute in there, lots of swoon <3

Maja really? :D Amazing. Well, actually is my friend's house from the picture :P But I don't live much far away :) How cool!! :D :D

  27. I love that cover of Looking for Alaska just as much as I love the US cover - and considering how much I love the US cover, that's saying something. And one of my friends was reading Room - it sounds really frightening but good at the same time.
Bittersweet does seem like one of those books everyone's read. I read Fixing Delilah by Sarah Ockler and didn't like it, but there are so many positive reviews of this book everywhere I might just have to read it anyway.
I hope y'all enjoy the books you got!
